I know, I know, I haven't posted in a few days and to tell the truth, I don't know if I'll have time to do it this week-end either. In the meantime, if you get bored, you can always check out my photoblog and let me know what you think.

Blue Angels are coming back! / Les Anges Bleus reviendront!

Just a tiny, small little comment about this newspaper article today. The Blue Angels are coming back to San Francisco. Despite some concerns about environmental waste, public safety (what if a plane hit the Transamerica Pyramid, uh?), noise (yeah, they're loud! :-), cost, and mostly - in my humble opinion - local dislike for military propaganda, the proposition to ban the Blue Angels from performing in the Bay was voted down and we'll get to see these talented men and their beautiful aircrafts again for Fleet Week in a couple of months. Personally, I couldn't be happier about that decision.


Just un tout petit commentaire sur cet article que j'ai lu dans le journal aujourd'hui. Les Anges Bleus reviendront donc à San Francisco. Malgré quelque inquiétude à propos de l'environnement, de la securité du public (et si un avion rentrait dans la Transamerica Pyramid, hein?), du bruit (oh, oui, ils font du bruit!:), du coût, et surtout - à mon humble avis - parce qu'on n'aime pas beaucoup les trucs militaires dans le coin, l'idée d'interdire la performance des Anges Bleus dans la Baie est partie à l'eau, et nous les reverrons donc pour la Semaine de la Flotte dans 2 mois. Personnellement, j'en suis très heureuse.

All right, I'll fess up... all I wanted an opportunity to post that beeautiful picture above (© SF Chronicle). Still, if you haven't seen the Blue Angels perform, I suggest you make some time for that... it is absolutely worth it!

Bon, j'avoue... j'avais surtout envie d'une excuse pour poster la photo ci-dessus (© SF Chronicle). En tout cas, si vous n'avez pas encore vu les Anges Bleus à l'acte je vous recommande vivement de venir voir... ça vaut le coup!

No More Halloween in the Castro /Halloween à Castro, c'est fini

Well, as you can see in this article Halloween in the Castro is now a thing of the past.

Eh bien, d'après le Chronicle, il n'y aura plus d'Halloween à Castro, c'est fini.






Last year, the party ended badly with 9 shootings and a few injured people. Fortunately nobody died, but maybe that was the wake-up call the City needed to end the festivities, I don't know.

L'an dernier, la party avait mal tourné et s'était terminée avec 9 coups de feus. Fort heureusement, personne n'est mort, mais peut-être que l'incident a servi de "réveil" à la ville qui a décidé depuis de mettre une fin aux festivités, je ne sais pas.







I personally view it as the "end of an era," but not everybody feels that way. If you are curious to see how other people in Bay Area reacted, be sure to also check the comments section under the article. I warn you, there are many comments.

Pour moi, cette décision représente la "fin d'une époque" mais apparemment, tout le monde ne le voit pas comme ça. Si vous êtes curieux de savoir ce qu'en pensent les gens du coin, allez jetter un coup d'oeil les commentaires sur l'article en question. Je vous avertis, il y en a beaucoup, et bien sûr, ils sont tous en Anglais.

UPDATE: I don't know if this link will continue to work in the next few days, but Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco, just made a surprise appearance on Sarah and NoName and explained a little bit his position about terminating the Castro party. His position, in a nutshell, is that the party has just grown much too large for the Castro neighborhood, and the City just does not have the resources to oversee 2 major events in one night because in the Mayor's opinion, even if you take the partysome place else, the crowd will still continue to flock to the Castro. Anyway, if you click on this link you might be able to see a short video of it, at least it's online right now. TF

As you know, France has a new President. As you would expect, he appointed a few "familiar faces."

Comme vous le savez, la France a un nouveau President. On n'est pas vraiment surpris de voir qu'il a nommé quelques "visages familiers".

Louis Vuitton's new ad campaign / Nouvelle campagne publicitaire de Louis Vuitton

Since I don't have access to my photographs, today, I thought I'd repost this little tidbit I found in the paper a couple of days ago.

Puisce que je ne peux accèder à mes photos, aujourd'hui, je me suis dit que je vous mettrais plutôt ce petit morceau que j'ai vu dans le journal il y a un jour ou deux.

Apparently, according to the Chronicle, Mikhail Gorbachev is the "new face of Louis Vuitton."

The Chronicle wrote:

"In an ad for Louis Vuitton, the former Soviet leader is shown sitting in a car with the Berlin Wall in the background. Louis Vuitton photo by Annie Leibovitz via Associated Press"

Pour ceux qui n'ont pas bien compris, ça veut dire en gros que Mikhaïl Gorbatchev est le "nouveau visage" de Louis Vuitton. Sur la photo vous pouvez le voir assis près d'un sac Vuitton sur la banquette arrière d'une limo longeant le Mur de Berlin.

According to Le Monde, it was very difficult to convince Mr. Gorbachev to participate in the Vuitton ad campaign, and he finally accepted on the condition that a donation be made to the organization Green Cross International. According to the same article (below) the idea of having the Berlin Wall in the background was Mr. Gorbachev's, because what matters to him is to have contributed to the fall of the Berlin Wall."

D'après Le Monde,

"Il a été très difficile de convaincre Mikhaïl Gorbatchev, confie au Monde Antoine Arnault, fils de Bernard et directeur de la communication Louis Vuitton. La donation qui sera reversée à la Croix verte internationale, la fondation dont il est le créateur et président, a achevé de le décider."

"C'est M. Gorbatchev qui a soufflé cette idée de mur de Berlin, précise Laurent Janneau, directeur commercial d'Ogilvy and Mather, l'agence qui signe la campagne. Il nous a dit : "Ce qui est important pour moi, c'est d'avoir contribué à la chute du mur de Berlin"".

Personally, I feel that Mr. Gorbachev is the wrong "face" for a Vuitton campaign, for a number of reasons. Am I the only one who feels that way? How do you feel?

Personnellement, je n'aime pas l'idée de voir Mr. Gorbatchef representer Vuitton, pour pas mal de raisons. Est-ce que je suis la seule? Qu'en pensez vous?
