San Francisco Gay Pride 2005 (En/Fr)

Today was San Francisco Gay Pride day. Many events have been happening all around the Bay Area this month, and especially this week-end, but this one was by far the most important, and one that I had been looking forward to for a very long time.

Aujourd'hui etait le jour de la Parade de Gay Pride. Il y avait eu pas mal de choses a faire dans la Bay Area dernierement, et ce week-end en particulier, mais cet evenement etait de loin le plus important, et un que j'attendais depuis tres longtemps.

I started watching the Parade on TV at home, and just like the last time, it made me want to go and be part of it. I stuck a tape in the VCR to continue taping the broadcast and rushed over to the City. That's why I didn't get the entire parade in picture, but I got some ...

J'ai commence a regarder la Parade a la television, et comme la fois derniere, cela m'a fortement donne envie d'y aller. J'ai mis une cassette dans le magnetoscope pour continuer d'enregistrer la partie a venir et je me suis precipitee a San Francisco. C'est pourquoi je n'ai pas la parade entiere en photo, mais j'en ai eu quelques unes quand meme ...

SF Gay Men Chorus - A Classic in the Parade


I took many pictures randomly, sometimes with the sun shining right into the camera, often of moving targets, but many of them turned out OK. Since I had such a great day today, I decided to post them all in a public account at Yahoo (view album here) and let the rest of you folks enjoy them as well. (Sorry having trouble hotlinking the album right now. Will gladly emails links to those of you who ask, instead. Also, any tips on photohosting would be greatly appreciated because I am having trouble with Hello and Yahoo, lately.)

J'ai pris pas mal de photos au hasard, quelque fois a contre jour, souvent de gens qui bougeaient, mais pas mal sont quand meme tres bien sorties. Puisce que j'ai eu une si bonne journee, j'ai decide de les mettre toutes sur un compte public a Yahoo (view album here) et vous laisser en profiter. (Desolee, le lien ne semble pas fonctionner pour le moment. Par contre, j'enverrai volontiers un lien sur l'album a ceux qui me le demandent par email. Aussi, si vous avec des tuyaux sur les servers de photo que vous utilisez pour les blogs, je suis prenneur, car je ne suis pas tres satisfaite avec Hello et Yahoo dernierement.)

But next time, I expect you to try to show up IN PERSON and contribute your own Pride pictures, OK? Deal?

This year, I didn't run into very many interesting looking females, sorry. I arrived too late for the legendary Dykes on Bikes. Maybe next year.

Cette annee, je n'ai pas rencontre beaucoup de femmes interessantes a photographier, desolee. Je suis arrivee trop tard pour les Lesbiennes sur Moto. Peut-etre l'annee prochaine.

If you think some of the pictures appear to have been taken from within the Parade, you are quite right. At some point, a few of us decided to follow the Parade, or should I say join in, right behind the security guys (oh, come on, look at them, wouldn't you? Be honest, now!)...

Si vous pensez que certaines des photos ont l'air d'avoir ete prises depuis la Parade et non du trottoir, vous avez absolument raison. A un moment donne, quelques uns d'entres nous avons decide spontanement de suivre la Parade, ou devrais-je dire de joindre la parade, juste derriere les mecs de la securite (oh, come on, regardez les, vous n'auriez pas fait la meme chose? Allez, soyez honete, maintenant!)...

And a little while later, one of the security guys turned around and said "Oh my God, we have a second Parade!" Since he was much taller than me, I asked him to take a picture of what he saw, and he did. Nice guy. I didn't get to see that picture until now, and now I understand better the expression on his face. Wow, there were a lot of us following them!

Et un peu plus tard, un des mecs de la Securite s'est retourne et a dit "Oh, mon Dieu, nous avons une deuxieme Parade!" Puisce qu'il etait beaucoup plus grand que moi, je lui ai demande de prendre une photo de ce qu'il voyait au dessus des tetes et il a dit oui. Sympa. Je n'ai pas vu la photo jusqu'a maintenant, et maintenant je comprends beaucoup mieux l'expression sur son visage. Wow, on etait vraiment nombreux a les suivre!

Some of my friends have a hard time understanding this, but the Gay Pride Celebration is really not just for gay people, it's for everybody!

Certains de mes amis ont bien du mal a comprendre ceci, mais la Gay Pride celebration n'est pas seulement pour les gens gays, mais pour tout le monde!


Beautiful Person saw me trying to take a picture, marked a stop, and smiled.

Belle Ame m'avait repere entrain d'essayer de le prendre en photo, s'est arrete, et m'a souri.



Beautiful Person then did the same thing for that kid's parents. The kid was far more interested in that toy laser gun than the costumes.

Belle Ame a fait exactement la meme chose pour les parents de cet enfant. Le gosse etait beaucoup plus interesse au pistolet-laser en plastic qu'aux costumes des grands.


I, for instance, like to celebrate that event because I am proud to live in an area that welcomes such diversity. I also celebrate because it is an extremely uplifting crowd, easy-going, friendly, and fun! Some of these guys might look a little scary but they are really not aggressive. If you don't believe me, look at the expression on the faces of some of these guys/ladies who posed for me.

Moi, par exemple, j'aime celebrer cette journee parce que je suis fiere de vivre dans un endroit qui accueuille tant de diversite. Je participe aussi parce que ca donne le moral, ces gens sont charmants, sympathiques, et amusants. L'apparence de certain d'entre eux (ou elles) font peut-etre un peu peur, mais croyez moi, personne n'est agressif. Si vous n'etes pas sur, allez voir de plus pres l'expression sur les visages de certains de ces hommes/femmes qui ont pose pour moi.

Unfortunately, the battery in my camera decided to give up right as I entered the area of the "Radical Fairies." If you've never been there, let me just say this: these Radical Fairies leave very little to the imagination.

Malheureusement, la batterie dans mon appareil photo s'est videe juste alors que j'entrais chez les "Fees Radicales". Si vous n'avez jamais ete les voir, laissez moi vous dire une chose: les Fees Radicales ne vous laissent pas deviner grand chose.

It was a great day and I am a little tired, so I will update you on the Radical Fairies, post the French translation and comments on the Yahoo Album a little later.

C'etait une journee superbe et je suis un peu fatiguee, alors je vous racconterai ce que j'ai vu chez les Fees Radicales, finirai mon billet, et mettrai les commentaires sur l'Album Yahoo un peu plus tard.
