Et l'iPod c'est pour manger tout de suite? / One iPod to go, please!
The other day I went to eat at the Macy's cafetaria, Union Square (yes, yes, you'll get pictures later, don't worry!). They have nice salad and stuff to go for a relatively decent price (by Financial District's standards, of course). Imagine my surprise when I saw this iPod and iPod-related accessories' distributing machine right at the entrance of the cafetaria. stuck between a display of dishes and the the restaurant!
L'autre jour, je suis allée manger à la cafetaria en dessous de chez Macy's à Union Square (oui, il y aura des photos plus tard, on se calme!). Ils ont des salades sympas et des trucs à emporter pour pas trop cher (par rapport aux prix du quartier des affaires de SF, bien entendu). Quelle surprise quand j'ai découvert cette machine à distribuer des iPods et accessoires d'iPod juste à l'entrance de la cafétaria, coincée entre une présentation de vaisselle et le resto!
Maybe I should explain... The Apple store is only just a block away from Macy's. But I guess if you REALLY are in a hurry and absolutely CANNOT WAIT another minute to get an iPod, then by all means, just slide your credit card in there and one will be delivered to you on the spot! The dumb thing about it though is that there is no facility nearby allowing anybody to charge their newly purchased iPod with tunes, so I guess people are still gonna have to wait until they find a computer some place else to be able to use it anyway. So what exactly is the point of this hurried purchase?
Il faut peut-être préciser que le magasin Apple ne se situe qu'un pathé de maison plus loin. Mais si VRAIMENT l'envie vous démange à ce point là et que vous ne pouvez PLUS ATTENDRE une minute de plus pour obtenir un iPod, glissez votre carte de crédit dans la machine, et hop, le tour est joué! Ce qui est un peu con quand même, c'est qu'il n'ont rien prévu à rien à côté de la machine pour charger l'iPod avec de la musique, donc vous allez quand même être obligés d'attendre de trouver un ordinateur pour pouvoir vous en servir. Donc ça sert à quoi d'être aussi pressé?

This is still such a cool, and very American, idea. Even if you can't charge the songs, the convenience, the location, and the concept is excellent. Half of what I like most about the iPods (yes, plural) I purchased was the packaging!

Quand tu achetes un Coca dans une machine automatique et que la machine se coince, tu as perdu 50 cents (enfin chez Walmart, ailleurs c'est 65 cents ;-)
Si la machine de l'iPod se coince, tu en es a $ 300.00. Ouille ! Il faut avoir confiance !
Est ce qu'il y a un numero de telephone indique sur la machine en cas de problemes ?

I negleted to check out the non DP bloggers blogs. Anyway, we don't have many of these machines here except for the Airports. Did you buy anything?
Michael: the pleasure is all mine! But, Michael, why buy an iPod from a machine when you can just as well walk to the Mac store a block away and get a little play time on the Macs while you're there, too ;-)
Chris: Tiens, c'est vrai, j'avais pas pensé à ça! Je n'ai pas remarqué de numéro de telephone, mais par contre je crois avoir vu une camera du genre ATM sur la machine, alors on imagine que securité n'est pas loin derriere?

Ange-Etrange: En fait, c'est surtout des accessoires qu'ils vendent, mais les quelques iPods sont tres bien emballés dans leurs boites, ça devrait pas craindre. En plus depuis qu'ils sont passés au flash, ils sont légers comme tout.

Rodney: I forgot.. no, I didn't buy anything. I've had the same iPod forever, now, and it took me so long to build the library (on various computers) that I'm in no hurry to change. I must say, though, that the thought of having flash instead of a spinning drive is very tempting.
