San Francisco Twins Marian and Vivian Brown

Photographed at the angle of Montgomery and Sutter, SF

San Francisco has always had its share of local, colorful characters. Let me introduce you today to the famous San Francisco Brown Twin Sisters.

I mentioned the twins before a couple of years ago on a previous post but since then, I did a little bit of research and found out who they were.

So the other day, when I saw them walking arm and arm on Mongtomery, I ran to them and asked if they'd let me get a shot or two... and they said yes!!! Pretty soon, a whole flock of tourists and locals alike were snapping pictures of the pair.

Marian (left), and Vivian (right) can sometimes be seen walking around their Nob Hill neighborhood... if you're lucky :)

More about the San Francisco twin sisters here and there.

Oh man I LOVE these women! I ran into them both in the ladies room of the Tadich Grill a few years ago and they were so sweet! These are fabulous photos of them! I hope to be this stylish when I'm of a certain age.

One of the things I miss about working downtown was a "Twins" sighting. I always considered it good luck to see them, and that whatever I was doing was going to turn out well after seeing them.

My goodness! I have not seen them in ages but I'm glad you have! Thank you for the update and now I'll be sure to look for them in Nob Hill (I used to always see them in Neiman Marcus).

Well, that was fun...
I read the Wikipedia article and found out some interesting things -- including the fact that they're only 20 years older than me, so now I don't think they're all that old...   They obviously keep those legs in such good condition by chugging up Nob Hill all the time.   From the looks of all that makeup they must keep Max Factor in business...

Katie: You're not alone, there have been sightings of them at the Tadich Grill before according to Yelp. Nice place, the Tadich Grill, by the way! Is this where we're meeting for lunch? ;)

Janice: Welcome! :) I agree, whenever I see them, it cheers me up immediately.

Tangobaby: Welcome, too! About the other comment you left, I did stop blogging for a while and now I only post once approx. once a week or so. That way, I have a little time to visit other blogs and I don't feel tempted to post "filler" posts about nothing ;) But you're right, my blog has been dormant for a while and many of the links on the right need a "little updating."

PhotoADay: LOL, Don! Yeah, they do wear a lot of makeup, for sure!

Thank you all very much for all the comments, guys.

I forgot to say that the Twins were surprisingly easy to approach and very generous about letting people take pictures of them. I say "surprisingly" because after all, they are celebrities in San Francisco. But people stop them when they're walking around to take pictures, and they oblige.

They wear sensible shoes because after all, they are in their 80's.

By the way, does anyone know how to get in touch with them by e-mail?

They wanted a copy of my pictures and gave me a business card but there is no email on it!

If anyone knows, please let me know by email at tomate[dot]farcie[at]gmail[dot]com thanks.

Ah, your photos of them are delightful. I hope I still have such joy and purpose in life as they do when I reach my eighties.

Question: vraie ou fausse fourrure?

Uselaine: You know, I have a feeling you will! :)

Great pics of the sisters! It's unusual to see twins dress alike any more. When I was in school, twins always dressed alike.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I left a comment on one of your other blogs as well, with the dream tower.

When "Louis" used to frequent Union Square more often, it wasn't uncommon to see the twins, particularly in Macy's. "Louis" hasn't seen them in years and wondered if they are still with us. "Louis" is quite happy to see that they are!

They're darling to see, but I think their good cheer is the best part of their charm. Quelle joie de vie!

Mon Dieu Tomate...I know them very well! I went on a trip to Israel with them in 1987! I haven't seen them in several years, the last time I saw them they had both recently retired. They used to take piano lessons together and practiced at home...wonder if they still play.

I just don't get the contrast between winter up top and summer down low. Aren't they hot all over? LOL

Gosh, it's summertime where I am and even looking at the top part of that pic makes me sweat buckets.

I'm sure they are lovely ladies, but to me they look darn scary. And I'm a Gemini, mind ya. :P

I’m leaving memories of them sitting together at Tadich grill, elegantly dressed and coiffed. They were always sweet and friendly. I never engaged in anything other than short, complimentary greeting. These women deserve credit for the elegance they imparted, wherever they walked and landed.
We’ve sadly lost the twins but Tadich Grill-excellent as ever.
