San Francisco 2CV

Une belle Dodoche à San Francisco

After seeing Eric's 2CV in Paris, Ham's in London (there is a catch!), and Manu's in San Francisco (without even realizing it was a 2CV from the back!), I decided to have a little fun and post my own sighting of a 2 CV in San Francisco, as well. Does anybody else around the world have a picture of a 2CV they saw in their hometown to post to their blog or an interesting story they wish to share about this cool car?

Here you go, Michèle! The same thing from the back!

By the way, the nickname of that car (2CV means "two horses") used to be "dodoche" when I was growing up. I have no idea what they call it in France, these days. More information about the 2 CV right here.

And since we're doing funky cars, here is one for Le Nerd (well, he asked!)

An old Citroen DS seen in San Francisco

Update: It looks like it's "Deuche" or "Deudeuche" and not "Dodoche." Ooops! Thanks for the feedback!

Tomate, each time I visit your page, I get a popup from ILead. Do you know what that is?

Buzzgirl: It's probably my side tracker. I don't get the popups anymore since I installed a GOOGLE tool bar at http://toolbar.google.com/?promo=mor-tb-en
so I had no idea. Sorry about that!

I've installed the same toolbar at work on all the computers and highly recommed it; it's a snap to install and blocks tons of popups - but not all - (unless somebody has better idea or know a better fix to preventing the popup on Buzzgirl's computer? Anyone?)

Buzzgirl, do you get that problem on my photoblog as well or just this one? Thanks.

Vraiment cool, merci Tomate

Tomate...a comment I left you on Eric's blog, but didn't want you to miss:

"LOL tomate....the 70's ? I wasn't even thinking about cars then. Only kidding. I am amazed however of how many people know this car. I hadn't heard of it until I moved to France and even then, only by sight, not by model. You learn something every day I guess."

I am actually very happy to be able to claim that I owned one - if only for a few months - back in 1974-75. I had bought it from my cousin (it was painted bright yellow, with some blue highlights), and it was in rather sad shape. It worked fine for maybe three months, and then the transmission died. Since I was getting married and moving to the U.S. in August 1975, I decided not to get it fixed, and to sell it. The guy who bought it (for very little money) was actually buying two 2CVs to rebuild one from both cars.

Yes, the windows that flapped down on your arm were rather annoying. But I am amazed that no one has mentioned yet the noise that car made. I still love imitating it.

You should have translated "Poubelle" for the non-french speakers, into dustbin.

As an aside, probably most people don't know about the French habit of using initials as words - Like the Citroen DS is pronounced Day-ess in french, which means "goddess". The basic version of the DS was the ID, pronounced "Ih-day" and meaning idea.
