Escaping to the country

While some of my friends are very busy trying to find their inner French woman (???) I am striving to find my inner red-neck...

I don't know about you, but I'm a lot happier when I can break away from city life now and then. A matter of balance, I suppose?

So, a couple of weeks ago, I drove up with a friend to Chanslor Ranch, in Bodega Bay (about 1H15 to 1h30 north of San Francisco), where we had reservations for a guided horseback ride along the beach.

Marin County was nice and sunny (as usual) but the closer we got to Bodega Bay, the thicker the fog was.

They didn't allow anyone to take any kind of camera equipment during the ride, so I couldn't get you a shot of the spectacular view of the beach, but take my word for it, it was really pretty cool.

The horses were friendly and everything went pretty smoothly. We gave them tiny carrots and they really liked that.

My only regret is that we couldn't get the horses away from the beaten path but I guess the rules are pretty strict as to where they can or cannot go for a variety of reasons, including the fact that the trail goes through a State Park and they have limited access there to protect certain endangered species.

It was still a great deal of fun and I'd gladly do it again. Maybe next time, we can get the sun to show up! ;)

I think it is a bum deal without the camera but the ride must have been nice. The horses are good looking. I would give them a hug too.

what is better than a song as comment

JOURNEY :Lights

When the lights go down in the city
And the sun shines on the bay
I want to be there in my city
Ooh, ooh

So you think you’re lonely
Well my friend I’m lonely too
I want to get back to my city by the bay
Ooh, ooh

It’s sad, oh there’s been mornings out on the road without you,
Without your charms,
Ooh, my, my, my

Sounds like a great outing, fog or no fog... --Just an excuse to return for a sunny day...

When I was in my mid-20's I worked with a friend who was managing the Çircle V -- the last ranch going west out of Fairfax.   I got real good at cleaning stalls...   It was fun, and a bit of work too.   I got the opportunity to ride to the top of Loma Alta, and that was fun...   Thanks for the memories.

I am fortunate in living in the countryside and every day I take it all in . I worked in a city for 10 years and was away from the moors and the sea. Now I am home and love to be part of a small village on the north yorkshire moors. Some of my friends say they could never move away from a town, but we did and we love it.

I'm glad you had a fun time with the horses (giving them carrots was very nice of you), but right now I'm obsessed with that article on how to be a Frenchwoman because it's obvious that I am doing everything wrong.

Thank you very much for the nice comments, the song (?) and everything, guys!

Tango, I didn't read the article all the way to the end, but I do have a book about finding your inner French woman (a garage sale find, actually) so when I get through that, I'll probably write a blog post.

Claude: I didn't see very many birds that day, except for a quail, I believe. She was very busy trying to get our attention and ran on the ground, forming some kind of a triangle. Someone explained to me that she was probably protecting her nest and trying to get us to follow her rather than find her babies. Of course, we didn't follow her at all, we continued on the trail and left her alone!
