No Internet!!! Pas d'internet!!!

Well, this is it. What I thought was a temporary Internet service interruption caused by the recent storms and other weather-related issues we had over the holidays in California, is turning out to be a much bigger deal and I pretty much no longer have Internet at home (or TV reception) or very rarely.

Ben voila.

After having enjoyed for months all the comforts of Comcast high-speed cable internet at home, it looks like I'm no longer going to be able to get that - long and convoluted story, trust me, you don't want to hear it, unless you never had to deal with a cable company or a large ISP before, in which case let me tell you, when things work everybody's happy, but when they don't, you're in for a world of frustration.

Anyway, I'm now looking for an equivalent high-speed connection replacement, so I thought I'd run a quick survey and find-out what you guys are using for high-speed internet (not interested in dial-up). Does anybody have any recommendations? How about wireless?

Wi-fi?

Tomate's weekly post might return tomorrow or in a couple of days, depending on the connection ... and whether or not Blogger will let me upload my $!$@#@#$ pictures! Arrrghhhhhh!!!! Some days are like that! (sigh)

(soupir)

And you, how did you start the new year?

By the way: those of you who have my Comcast e-mail address, expect a change in the next couple of weeks. When you get the notice, please update your addressbook accordingly ... FAST!

I personally use wireless broadband connection from Verizon Wireless. It's $59.00/month and give you fast access from everywhere. No need to look for a wifi hot spot. I had it for more than a year and I never had any problem... Very cool whe you travel...

Yahoo SBC DSL Express here. Very happy with it. So far all the little trouble of billing or deconnection were solve in a blink of the eye by calling the free 800 number. 1.5Mb (around 150KB actual) down, and 400Kb up (around 35 / 40 depending on the day).

I am at 20.99 a month at the moment. And they have a deal at 16.99 for the first 6 month for new subscribers.

DSL with SBC, which I've had since the days they were PacBell and actually came to your house to install it...no problems at all since then. Currently using a Linksys router, but planning to go wireless sometime soon. This is in Berkeley, by the way.

Just checking to see if you have resolved your internet connection problems yet... I cannot really advise because I am an idiot when it comes to this kind of stuff. I have a DSL connection through Verizon, with whom I also have my entire telephone package (land line, and two cell phone lines - mine and my daughter's) - I can't complain, it's worked fine ever since I have been connected to it, but I would be very hard put to configure my router (Apple Airport.)

Have you checked out Road Runner? Dunno if it's available in SF, though I imagine it is. I have their service through Time Warner Cable and it's fast and (reasonably) reliable. Oh I've heard good things about Earthlink too.

Good luck, hope you're back soon!!
