It was nice to have a day off yesterday (Labor Day), but now we get to play catch up! So I may not have much time to post to the blog between now and the end of the week. Just a few words for today.
First thing this the morning, I got to purchase a server from DELL for the firm. It starts out inexpensive enough, but by the time you've finished customizing it to your liking, purchasing the licenses, warranty, etc., it's a different story! I certainly hope the thing works better than some of the workstations we already have.
I asked if they'd throw in a free Laptop with the server, what the heck, you don't know until you ask, right? Alas, they said no. They shaved $200 off the total amount though.
Always try to negotiate with them, they seem to be quite used to it and they usually will try to make some kind of effort; they might throw in a little memory here or a small upgrade there... every little bit helps, non? True, your computer will be obsolete in 6 months anyway whatever the configuration, but isn't it a good feeling when you open the box and smell that brand new computer smell ...
The frustration doesn't start until after you plug it in...

La journée de congé hier (Fete du Travail) nous a fait beaucoup de bien, mais maintenant il faut rattrapper le temps perdu! Alors il se peut que je n'aie pas beaucoup le temps d'écrire sur le blog cette semaine. Juste quelques mots en vitesse.
Pour démarrer la journée, j'ai acheté pour la boite un server chez DELL ce matin. Les prix démarrent assez bas, mais quand on a fini d'ajouter toutes les options, les licenses, la taxe et le reste, c'est une autre histoire! J'espère qu'il marchera un peu mieux que certains de nos Optiplexes.
J'en ai profité pour leur demander s'ils voulaient pas m'envoyer un laptop gratuit avec, pourquoi pas, on ne sait jamais, n'est-ce pas? Bien sur, ils ont dit non. Toutefois, ils m'ont donné quand meme une petite réduction de $200 sur le total de la facture, ce qui fait toujours plaisir.
Il faut toujours essayer de negocier avec eux; d'une part parce qu'ils ont l'habitude alors faut pas se sentir gené, et puis parce qu'en general, ils font toujours un petit effort. Un peu de mémoire par ci, une petite upgrade par là, ça aide toujours, non? C'est vrai que votre ordi ne sera plus à la page dans 6 mois quoi que vous choisissiez, mais quand meme ils sont bien sympas quand ils sortent de leur carton impeccables, flambant neufs, avec l'odeur même de l'objet neuf...
C'est juste après que la frustration commence.

$ 200 de reduc c'est bien, mais comme c'est pour la boite... c'est inutile ! :o)
Ça fait rien, c'est toujours ça de pris! ;-)
Pareil pour Dell France, en négociant la réduc arrive et en force. Ma boîte achète assez souvent des serveurs Dell (je travaille pour un hébergeur Internet) et l'autre jour ils nous proposaient un serveur 850 gratuit pour un 1850 acheté. Mais chut!! J'ai rien dit hein ! ;-)
